You’ll be seeing this illustration accompanying Ellen Griley’s review-of-sorts of Coachella Music Festival for The District, by way of sunburned, heat stricken fans who pass through her desert vacation home for a hospitable slumber before venturing out again. The article comes out Wednesday. Hope you get a chance to check it out!

A Foggy Day in Long Beach Town

These are some recent works that will end up in various places. I have this thing lately I’ve been noticing, where I am naming my paintings after my favorite jazz tunes, including here, from left, A Foggy Day, It’s Now or Never, and recently (below) a painting that went to Velocity, Stormy Weather.

I’ve always felt a kinship, or perhaps just admiration for the amazing women of jazz–especially Ella, who has the most beautiful voice and even shares my birthday.

Black is the new green

Sunday, April 22nd, 2007

Well…okay, we still love green. But black and gray emerged and apparently has its own story to tell. Evidence:

This one will soon be slathered in a reddish resin and be called sunset, if I can help it. (I always allow chance to engage as much as myself in the process of artmaking.) Forcing things just isn’t as fun:

Don’t mind the poop, but I thought you might like to see my baby pigeons. They’re mom went for a midday snack so I snapped a couple shots of them. They didn’t like it too much and started chattering their ferocious beaks at me, so I left them to continue their snuggling balcony-style until mum returned. But they’re little yellow hairs are so dang cute!

Upcoming Show(er)s and more!

stormymagnetRain, rain, come and play. Make my flowers bright in May. Although I’m worried for my birdie mom, her protection and strength remind me of a calm, that I once knew, that I once grew, for a day like today, where drops know their way.

Also, a new batch of magnets arrived and will be making their way into a situation that could end up in your hands if you so wanted them to. Meaning, you can buy them.

…designing a cd cover for a love comp cd for your boyfriend’s birthday. He’s 30! Fittingly, I’ve included songs by probably no one he likes, but all people I like, which is truly the nature of these homemade compilations. From Stevie Nicks and Cat Stevens to Django Reinhardt and Antonio Carlos Jobim to the Dixie Chicks and Lily Allen, this CD is sure to make him…um…run the other way. But that’s why I give it to him before the cherry cheesecake.
