Always Start at the Beginning
So, one of my longterm goals for this site is to have all my art on here, just in case something happened to them all (they’re in a rickety old garage and various friend’s houses) and also, it’s kind of neat to see a progression. I painted a lot before going to Art School so that will fill a chunk. But to feel thorough, I really wanted to start with my earliest drawings that I knew I had. So I guess I just wanted to start at the beginning. The Older Work gallery is now open.
And another thing, my students always ask me if I always wanted to be an artist. And I reply, that I always liked art. But I wasn’t like an amazing artist or anything. Seeing the world in images or wanting to convey images is a very natural inclination I think. We are such an incredibly visual culture, and art is just another language used to communicate and sometimes release those trapped meanings we don’t know how to convey in words.
