Happy Birthday Lily!

Friday, May 11th, 2007

lily.jpgIt’s just a special little relationship that needs recognition, you know? She’s 13 today. She’s been through it all with me, and for all her hair and mess, I love her like the day she was born, when her little face with her closed eyes resembled a three-petaled pansy. I decided Pansy wasn’t a strong enough name for this little trouble maker, and chose Lily instead, May’s flower.

She’s my baby!

Finding order in disorder

composition.jpgCompositions are all around us! Evidenced in this snapshot taken just before cleaning up yesterday’s water-based events. I decided it adds a little more excite- ment to have a water-based day and then an oil-based day. (Working on separate works of course) Perhaps that’s the organized part of my brain taking charge a little. Today is going to be a short-lived oil-based day before heading off to teach my Tiny Tots. And yes, if you’re wondering, we will be using oil pastels.flyinghearts

Here’s kind of an unlikely composition by me in oil, that has seen many days, and many cycles…and now, I think it has reached a nice resolve:

landscape-sketch.jpg

I have been really enjoying working on paper. It’s something I never did in Art School, but now that I have graduated (more than a year ago) I find myself using ultra common materials I never really did before: watercolors, acrylics, inks, stamps, heck, even the computer! Well, photoshop anyways. There’s something light and refreshing about drawings, especially on these really hot days. It’s like the lemonade of the Art World.

royal-nestTo the left is called “Royal Nest”. To the right is a little girl with a lunchsack. Lately, I have been having that urging to, you know, have a family. And Igirl-sketch2 always think…like I just want to do laundry and clean and cook and make lunches and hide little cute notes in them…and then, now I see. Here’s a little girl with a lunchsack. She doesn’t look too happy though…probably because I’m taking so damn long! And of course, my analitical side can just explore what this urging is all about, and it is both a cultural predisposition, and perhaps, a more instinctual, natural inclination. Hey, my pigeons are on egg batch no. 3 already!

Works at the Hive

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Here are the works in the show, in their final and available-for-purchase-would-look-lovely-in-your-home-or-office sort of way. Contact the Hive for more info! Also, because I like sharing, I did manage a few photos from the evenings festivities, but I did do a lot more seeing and thinking and talking and not so much photographing. It was a fun party! And as an artist, I felt so at home.

Go check out my photo gallery! They’re all kinda mixed up now with a previous reception, but what can you do…oh, you can check out the Hive’s photo gallery. They had professionals walking around, and not even warning you when they snapped your photo midsentence! Proceed with caution.

A little goes a long way…

heartA little cream in your coffee, a little seed sprouting and peeking its leaflets through the soil, a little love note from a loved one….and….a little drawing.
