Happy Halloween!

Well tomorrow I am pretty excited to transform my long, single-lane driveway into a haunted, single-lane driveway. Once the sun hath recede into night sky, there will be much to fear! Floodlights filtered through sinewy fences; sneaky red lights peeking out from unsuspecting house windows; black lights coloring your teeth funny; willowy, torn white IKEA curtains strung haphazardly; and a temperamental fog machine that fogs when it feels like it. Yes, my driveway is going to be haunted, and you just be-aware ok?

House Stuff: Martha-esque

Okay, so I have been spending mucho time on making my house livable and comfy. I am quite proud of the way the kitchen is shaping up. Although I did have a nice palette to work with. One situation was my bedroom: a lot of windows that needed some curtainage:

These windows actually wrap around the room and cover two whole walls. My solution was 2 sets of IKEA curtains that I chopped in half and reused the scraps to make new curtains for all 6 windows:

They turned out pretty nice, and now I have the much needed privacy for the evening hours. Also, look on the left of the photo. That dresser was light blue when I first moved in, now it’s a nice black to bring out the contrast in this shady room.

Owls and Deers and Eyes…oh my

My kids classes are in full swing (Riverside and Huntington Beach) and now that it’s getting closer to Halloween, I thought I’d share some owls from the summer art program at the Huntington Beach Art Center.

Speaking of the HBAC, this Sunday, October 21 iseye-of-god.jpg Family Arts Day, where I will have a tent for making “Eye of God” yarn weavings. They are fun to make and parents like them as much as, or sometimes more than the kids! There will be lots of other arts booths and everything is free, so come and check it out if you’re in the area!

I am getting situated in my new city, my new house and my new status as a Grad student(!). I have an art studio too! Needless to say, I am moving and nesting and dreaming about hammers and nails and ghosts (thanks to October being a month where horror movies are inescapable). Slowly but surely, I am settling into all my new places. Rome wasn’t built in a day (I keep reminding myself).

Come to my booth and make “Eye of God’s” or “Ojos de Dios”, a Native American craft of weaving yarn around two sticks that makes a very cool concentric design.

Stop by anytime noon-4 on Sunday, October 21.  Yay!
