House Hunting
Thursday, September 10th, 2009Well I’m not exactly house hunting, but houses have been on my mind as of late, which might explain somewhat these two little watercolors I made. Prints are in the shop now!

Well I am really digging my new studio, and I am having a fresh start with everything. After I installed some good lighting, and scraped off all the dried paint on my palette, I was ready to start painting! After a little hiatus from moving and the heat, it really feels good to get back in the swing of things. Why is pushing around a buttery, colorful goo so satisfying?
These are all in progress little snippets of things I’m working on right now.
I had an idea of what to do with all this painted paper I had laying around, and I’m going to be assembling something that I hope turns out neat. We’ll see…I’ll post pics.
I don’t really know what to say about this guy, except that it reminds me of a curled up spider. And everyone knows I am obsessed with spiders! I’m still trying to get my boyfriend to go on a Black Widow hunt at night with a flashlight and some tea tree oil infused water spray, but for some reason he doesn’t think that sounds like a good date night!?!
So men do not often make an appearance, but what the heck, it’s summer. Today I feel pretty refreshed after a good night’s sleep. I dreamt I was opening my own clothing store, and it had a pond in it, and lots of plants and there were all these rooms around it. I could choose and customize everything, including where the doors would go, and the way everything would look. It was pretty cool and exciting to be the creative controller of something so….organic? Hmmm….is it relating to my artmaking practice or my foray into music recording the other day? Or maybe all of the above.
Have a little listen:
It’s basically one guitar track and a bunch of interconnected vocals. For the drum beat I banged on the guitar with my rings on. Sorry Brian, but it was that or your pans.
I have been adding some recent works to my gallery section and also some new prints to my etsy shop! Since I am not completely settled in my new studio space, it has been easier for me to make watercolor works, which are actually very fast and fun. I also hit the library for it’s little book sale section to paint on used books. These happened yesterday and without even trying, I’ve captured how I’ve been feeling lately: cloudy and like I can’t even see. It’s a weird feeling. It was doubly weird when I voiced the way I felt to myself, and then realized I painted a lady with no eyes and a fluttering bird in her face. Sometimes art is really nice that way. Dreams are also nice thay way.

Well I don’t want to scare anyone with photos of how messy my entire studio is, but I will bore you with the very nifty and exciting wood contraption I made for canvas storage. I am in love! I know a built in one would be even better, but this little fellow is portable, on wheels, and has removable shelves. Very exciting for someone who earnestly likes organization, even if I can always keep things as such…
