Hello! I'm Courtney. I'm a visual artist, art educator and a mother of two. To me, art is about being in the moment, whether you are using that moment to engage in the unknown, to wander, explore and play, or to remember, recall, or memorialize, or merely to try to see what is right in front of you: it's about being present.
When we make art, we are translators, voyagers, archaeologists and poets. We are surrendering and discovering.
Hands on, tactile forms of art making that engage all the senses, where your hands may get colorful and messy, you hear the sound of charcoal gliding across a finely textured paper or the clink of a brush splashing in a water-filled glass jar, or the smells of oils, waxes and inks, taps into a part of the human spirit that has been making something from nothing for all of human history. While I appreciate digital forms of art, and have learned them, I know they will never replace physical forms of art-making in terms of quality and connection through human touch. Physically learning how to make art in the traditional sense is a vital part of human development. We are no stranger to line, color, shape, value, form, space, texture, pattern and balance--learning to engage and participate in these relationships is one of our inherent, natural instincts. You are an artist. I am an artist. We are all artists. Please join me on this wondrous journey!

Experience
Throughout my late teens and 20s, I worked at the Huntington Beach Art Center as a Gallery Aide and Membership Coordinator, before becoming a teacher. As an independent contractor, I taught a variety of art classes for over 10 years--everything from parent & me classes to pre-schoolers to youth drawing and painting and mixed-media classes, to adult Oil Painting classes. It was a blast!
In 2017, our family relocated to the beautiful North County area where I have been raising my two imaginative, lively children Fox and Scarlett around trees and green hills and an ancient volcano! Currently, I lead a weekly after-school art club in Oceanside.
